| Judy began this 7,000 square
foot bookstore selling household items, including a small box of books,
at a flea market in the early 70’s while waiting for a teaching position
at a DeLand school. The flea market business grew into a books-only
business and became so cumbersome she opened a store in her house
in 1976. That expanded and within 8 months necessitated a move to
a storefront. She ran the store and continued the flea market for
8 years before concentrating on the store and quitting the market.
Over the next few years the store moved again, then expanded 3 times
in that location before she finally bought the building at her present
location.
She now has 4 full time and 3 part
time employees to help with the trading, shelving, alphabetizing,
re-alphabetizing (and re re-alphabetizing) of approximately 200,000
books which arrive daily, as well as 800 new magazine titles which
arrive 2 to 3 times each week.
She
is proud to have been voted “Best In The West” every year by readers
of the local News Journal since the contest first began in 1994.
Her two cats, Simon and Schuster, greet the customers and are often
found in someone’s lap or peeking out the window.
This
is a family owned, independent bookstore that has grown up with
DeLand, which is a delightful small southern, college town.

ALL
CREDIT TO BE USED ON MASS MARKET ("Pocket Size") PAPER
BACK BOOKS ONLY*
WE MAKE SOME EXCEPTION
ON A CURRENT PER VISIT BASIS WHICH IS DETERMINED BY THE BOOKS
BROUGHT IN FOR CREDIT.
You will receive trade
credit up to 25% of the publishers' price or in some cases half
of our selling price. This credit may be used towards the purchase
of used books similar to your trade-ins. (i.e. science fiction
for science fiction, romance for romance, etc.) Check at the desk
to see if cross trading is allowed based on your current trade-ins.
We take most of our own books back in trade and welcome gently
pre-read books if we are not already overstocked.
HAVING TRADE CREDIT
DOES NOT ELIMINATE YOUR CASH COST. EVEN IF YOU HAVE A LARGE TRADE
CREDIT BALANCE, THE BOOKS ARE NOT FREE. You will be required to
pay, in cash, 10% of the trade credit used (Use $6.00 trade credit
and pay 60 cents and tax).
Please note
the most current, collectible or hard-to-get out of print books
that are bagged or have our yellow "cash only" sticker
on them can only be traded out at our discretion. New merchandise
is never traded out.
When
we accept your trades you will receive a credit receipt. As we
do not keep duplicate records of credit receipts, it is your responsibility
to keep track of your credit as well as you would if it were cash.
Please present credit receipts at time of purchase. TRADE CREDIT
IS NOT REDEEMABLE FOR CASH.

Price
-
Cost
of used books is generally 1/2 (50%) of the original or current
publisher's price. There are no books in the store for less than
$1.00. Science fiction, non-fiction, and classics are a minimum
of $2.00. Your credit will reflect this (example: Bring in a 95
cent science fiction, get $1.00 credit.)
PLEASE
KEEP YOUR YOUNG CHILDREN WITH YOU AT ALL TIMES.
We have a selection
of paper back books for 50 cents each or 3/$1.00 as well as hardbacks
for $1.00 (6/$5.00, 15/$10.00) and shelves of free books along
the side of the store. These are not returnable.

Buying
Policy -
We base our purchase
price on knowledge learned from 32 years of experience in the
buying habits of our area. It is very subjective and specific
to our store and geographic location. Your best dollar value is
usually in trading your books for in-store credit.

Unacceptable
Books -
If we cannot use your
books you may have us donate them to an organization that can use
them such as Habitat for Humanity, Salvation Army, Neighborhood
Center, Church Sales, The Library, etc. Some we put on our "cart"
or our free shelf outside. Any money we may make on these cart books
is used to defray the cost of sending books to soldiers in the middle
east. We also offer wholesale credit on many books. These we sell
3/$1.00 on a non-returnable basis to other booksellers or our own
customers. Nothing gets wasted.
